Position Description

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Expanding reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery practice seeking full-time physician assistant with variable hours and potentially one Saturday per month. The surgeon maintains a busy caseload at multiple local hospitals. The physician assistant's role would include operating room first assist, pre and post op visits, inpatient rounding, office-based non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures, medical billing, and marketing. Open to new graduates or PAs with experience.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provides direct care, counseling and teaching to a select patient population.
  • Performs history and physical examinations.
  • Performs post- operative patient visits.
  • Responds in a timely fashion to patient telephone calls and email queries.
  • Orders, interprets and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests to assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Arranges for appropriate plan of care and follow-up based on outcome of diagnostic, lab and physical assessment findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Records pertinent patient care findings in electronic medical records in a timely manner.
  • Sets priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflects cost effective management of time, available human resources, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information by discussing patient data with the physician, nursing staff, and office manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. The ability to work harmoniously with a diverse group of individuals is required. Must maintain a PA license in Connecticut and maintain controlled substance licensure in CT. The candidate must have a Federal DEA license.

Must possess:

  • Expert clinical judgement skills to function in an independent role.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills in order to collaborate with patients, families, staff and outside healthcare workers.
  • Ability to work with frequent stress resulting from busy clinical settings and a changing organizational climate.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal staff as well as to external healthcare workers.
  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to office staff, patients and families.
  • Ability to provide a high level of patient satisfaction and staff training to meet service standards and expectations for the assigned position. Must be able to resolve issues in the practice in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Licensure Required:

  • Must have successfully completed a Graduate Level, accredited Physician Assistant Program approved by the AMA Board of Approval and Certification of PA programs.
  • Must have 4 years of college level education and a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent – BS/MS joint programs are also acceptable.
  • Board Certification by the National Commission on Certification of PA’s is required.
  • License as a Physician Assistant in Connecticut
  • Maintain a current DEA and Connecticut Controlled Substance License.
  • Complete CME requirements, according to national and state regulations, during each 2 year period of employment.
  • Maintain current BLS certification
  • Maintain active privileges at all hospital at which the surgeon has active privileges.

  • Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients at all times and must exercise independent originality in solving problems not covered by existing guidelines (within legal limits) to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Must maintain a collegial working relationship with other personnel involved in patient care.
  • Must demonstrate an understating of procedures, policies and documentation required to ensure compliance with practice standards of care.

WORKING CONDITIONS : The PA will work in a pleasant community based plastic surgical practice. The workload can be challenging, requiring both teamwork and individual initiative. A high level of patient care is required, often requiring the ability to multi-task. Our schedule may require some measure of flexibility in hours.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Participate in proper, complete and timely documentation
  • Possess an awareness of billing and compliance issues.
  • Participate in setting productivity metrics and in cost effective management of personnel, time, supplies and equipment in his/her area.
